At the Corporate Cup, our core mission is simple: get moving, step away from the desk, and enjoy the physical and mental benefits of active time out of the office.
Every bit of movement counts, but if you have a competitive streak, understanding how your category works is key to reaching the leaderboard. Here is your ultimate guide to the Corporate Cup categories, timing requirements, and scoring systems.
Timing Your Run: How to Track Your Results
How you log your times depends on where and how you participate:
-
City & Mawson Lakes (Most Improved & Fastest): You must use your official RFID timing card at the venue. If you forget your card on race day, see a staff member on-site immediately to collect a temporary replacement.
-
Semaphore & Virtual KM Tracker: On-site timing systems are not available for these locations. You must log your distance and times using a GPS-enabled app or wearable device and upload them to your profile.
Most Improved Category: Understanding the Points
The Most Improved category rewards consistency and steady progress—not raw speed.
Individual Scoring
-
First Round: Earn a guaranteed 40 points just for setting your baseline time in Round 1.
-
Subsequent Rounds: Earn between 20 and 40 points per round based on genuine progress. Points are determined by a proprietary algorithm that factors in your baseline time, age bracket, and expected weekly progression.
-
Missed Targets: If you do not improve upon your best time, you will receive between 5 and 20 points, with larger time drop-offs earning fewer points.
What Counts as “Genuine Improvement”? Start at a honest, natural pace in Round 1. Do not deliberately run slow to game the system; dramatic, unnatural jumps in performance will trigger point penalties. The algorithm adjusts as the event progresses, making allowance for the fact that gains become harder to achieve over time. Anyone can win—you do not need to be an experienced runner to score maximum points.
Team Scoring
-
Active Roster: Teams can register up to 7 members.
-
Round Totals: Each round, only the top 5 individual scores count toward your team total (maximum of 200 points per round). Teams with fewer than 5 members remain eligible but cannot reach the maximum potential score.
-
Final Standings: Your final team score combines your best 5 out of 7 rounds. This gives your team a 2-round safety buffer for missed weeks without sacrificing a top score (maximum overall score: 1,000 points).
Fastest Category: Individual & Team Speed
This category is built for pure speed over your chosen distance and location.
-
Eligibility: Fastest Individual is open to all participants in the Most Improved or Fastest Team categories. The Fastest Team title is strictly reserved for teams that selected this category during registration.
-
Qualification: Individuals and teams must complete 5 out of 7 rounds to qualify.
-
Individual Scoring: Final standings are based on the average time of your 5 fastest runs.
-
Team Scoring: Each round, your team’s top 5 fastest entries are averaged. The overall team winner is calculated from the average of your 5 fastest rounds overall (a total of 25 individual entry times across the season).
KM Tracker Category: Maximum Flexibility
If you cannot commit to a physical location each round, the KM Tracker allows you to record your distance anywhere, anytime.
-
Round Structure: Rounds run on a 14-day cycle aligning with the CBD schedule. You have a 5-day grace period post-round to submit missing distance logs (e.g., if a round ends on Tuesday, submissions close Sunday at midnight). Late entries are strictly not accepted.
-
Team Calculation: Final team standings sum the total kilometers logged by the top 5 team distance leaders across all 6 rounds.
-
Tiered Targets: Hit Bronze, Silver, or Gold distance milestones each round to enter your team into exclusive sponsor prize draws.
Rules of the Road for KM Tracker
-
Foot Power Only: Activities must be completed on foot. No wheels, engines, or wings allowed (wheelchairs are fully exempt). Treadmill workouts are strictly limited to participants with medical requirements.
-
Dedicated Workouts Only: Submissions must have a defined start and end point. Daily passive step counts do not qualify.
-
Honesty First: Log your activities accurately. The ultimate goal is improving your health and building workplace camaraderie!
