We are so proud of our 43 year history of the Corporate Cup. This round, we feature the incredible John Merritt, who has participated in every one of the 43 Corporate Cup’s.

In the first year of the Corporate Cup in 1981, John joined one of two teams from the Australian Broadcasting Commission (ABC) and joined a team running in the Corporate Cup at the now Adelaide Uni loop. In 1982 the 4.5km course started at Pinky Flat- opposite Memorial Drive. John used the Corporate Cup as an additional training session, as he played high grade Hockey. His (ABC) team won the Corporate Cup in 1987 and 1988 and missed out by a point in 1989.

John worked at the ABC until his retirement in 2013. Across these years John worked in a range of roles including as an electrician technician, building tv and radio studios, he also worked on air as an audio operator on tv as well as other roles. Since his retirement, John has continued to participate each year and has been undertaking the 7.2km CBD course, however in 2022, after undertaking a double heart bypass, John took it is easy (understandably) doing the 4.5km distance, he is back doing the 7.2km track this year!.

John has always loved the Corporate Cup, as it is a personal commitment to get him off his butt, especially after winter, it gets John outside, and he knows it will improve his fitness, and is he feels compelled to keep his track record intact. John loves the people involved, is so thankful for the friendly staff and volunteers.

John encourages others to participate as it is such a friendly atmosphere, and it really assists your own fitness. What an incredible effort John- congratulations.

We look forward to seeing John again, and you all in 2024.
